Big Sky Country
Today is 6/24, I think. We've been in the big skies of Montana for several days, and the landscape extends forever. The Rockies loom ahead of us with endless asphalt and endless natural beauty. The last couple of days we stayed at national forest campgrounds, which had turquoise glacial lakes for us to swim in (a cold shower alternative). Very refreshing!
Whitefish, MT was a liberal haven of cafes, bike shops, gift stores, and services for outdoors people. The summer tourist season is very short; snow flies as early as September.
The next few days will begin the steady ascent into Glacier National Park and towards the continental divide, a geological feature that reminds me of the equator. Waters flowing in different directions. Fascinating that the earth knows what to do without humans trying to direct its course. As always, nature can be very humbling.
I'm really enjoying your blog. Makes me motivate to get back on my bike as well as do some road trips. Thanks for a keeping us updated an enjoy the interesting stories and beautiful pictures. Looking forward to hear more about your and Becca's adventure.
